So, who are you … really?
This is a good question …… And here’s why.
Don’t be surprised! Most of us are not grown-ups
We might think we’re grown-ups but we’re not!
Most of us are living our lives based on lessons and experiences from childhood.
Most of us are still looking for approval and acceptance of others.
Most of us are still ‘children’ inside.
We have given ourselves an identity based on our past experiences and we cling to that identity, however painful it might be to do so, because it’s what we’ve learned. And the amazing thing is, most of us have forgotten when, why and how we made these contracts with ourselves when we were young.
As a result, our past beliefs have become real.
To hide our vulnerability, many of us develop large intellects.
This is where our safety lies —– in the world of tangibles —- in the world of the familiar and predictable.
We have locked the child in a prison of our own making
On the surface we look like and sound like a grown-up. But on the inside, in our emotional body, we are still vulnerable children.
Our vulnerable child gets locked away and becomes an embarrassment, someone to kick and punch and put down for not being perfect. When we get too upset and vulnerable, we drug the child with prescription drugs, alcohol, food… anything we can get our hands on! So as to not let this vulnerable child sabotage this finely tuned adult facade. And that’s what it is … a disguise!
When we acknowledge ourselves, we transform
When we can actually recognize that inner child and acknowledge that part of us (maybe for the first time) then a transformation happens.
Instead of kicking the child for embarrassing us, scolding the child for being less than perfect, and generally wishing the child would go away, we realize that more than anything else, the child needs acceptance, hope, love and reassurance.
It is at this moment of realization that most people truly grow up.
As a grown-up we find an inner resource to help nurture ourselves. Then we stop looking out there at what others are thinking or feeling.
This creates a true freedom, and a healthy relationship with others. It also helps us to stop judging others for behaving in the way we used to.
When we meet ourselves, we transform
Every person’s story is different. That’s why I love this work! It’s not easy to grow up and become the person we’re supposed to be, especially if it’s not the way we think it should be.
We all made contracts with ourselves when we were young in order to stay safe. We don’t realize that those contracts are not valid in our lives today. They are based on past/old beliefs that belonged to someone else.
Freedom exists in being fully present in the here and now. In not only accepting who we are today but truly accepting ourselves, especially when we’re not perfect!
So …. are you ready? Are you ready to embark on a truly transforming journey to meet the most important and fabulous person in your life … YOU! If so, I’d be honored to help you on this very personal and transformational journey.
