“I developed phagophobia (the fear of swallowing) after getting food poisoning abroad. Even months after getting sick, I still had the physical and mental symptoms. The fear was impeding my ability to eat, swallow, and fall asleep. My throat felt like it would tighten and close when I wanted to eat.
