Have you ever had that empty feeling when you’re doing well but something seems to be missing? It almost seems disrespectful to the millions who are starving, dodging death daily, or for whom a simple drink of clean water would mean a beautiful day.
But we have to deal with the problems inherent in our own situation in life. And we all know that people can still become depressed even when all their basic needs for water, food, and shelter are met.
We are all encouraged to ‘follow our dreams’, but… what if you don’t like it when you get there?
So many people assume that all their problems would vanish once their dreams had come true.
Many people are shocked to find that ‘living the dream’ feels weirdly like climbing inside a fantastically decorated funhouse and discovering it’s hollow inside, even as everyone on the outside would give anything to come in and join them.
They had an assumption that once their ambitions were realized, everything in their life would become wonderful in all ways for all time.
They might believe that they needed to be thinner, have a better job or a new car, or a change in their living situation, or married or divorced or… in order to be happy.
If Success = Happiness, all famous people would be happy 😊
What’s interesting is many successful people report feeling happier in the days when they were still struggling for their success than after they’d actually reached it.
And the inner voice says… “But this is what you wanted… how can you complain, babies starve, people are out of work, what are you complaining about…?”
I believe that many people live in, what I call… the ‘if only’ world!
When we’re unhappy, we fall into the habit of thinking that, if only something in our life would change, everything would be fine.
We dwell on this one thing and strategize, or complain, or daydream about what it would be like to have it.
Meanwhile, underneath the surface, the real reason for their unhappiness sits unrecognized and unaddressed.
When we are able to explore the underlying cause of our discontent, all the surface concerns have a way of working themselves out in the light of our realization.
When we take a moment and stop focusing on external concerns, we might realize that in our life that once we get what we want we often become dissatisfied about something else.
Or perhaps we’ll notice a pattern of running away from a situation, or a relationship, when things get too difficult. We might then wonder why this keeps happening, and how we might work through the difficulty rather than just escaping it.
Once you take the time to look inside, you can begin to make changes that address the deeper issue.
This can be uncomfortable at first, but in the end you’ll be solving the problem at a deeper level, so it will be less likely to re-occur.
Hypnosis is the absolute best tool to help us look ‘inside’ so we can eventually be ‘happy’ and at peace in our life.
